Lola Ianovski

BA, BHSc(Hons), MHSc(Hons), PGDipPP, NZPsS, ACC

New Zealand trained and registered psychologist with international experience

working out of Parnell, Auckland.

Welcome,

I am a registered psychologist dedicated to creating an inclusive and welcoming space for individuals to achieve positive change that aligns with their values and goals.

I have a nuanced understanding of the needs of people from a broad range of cultural backgrounds and walks of life.  I love helping the helpers, knowing first hand how often the high achieving helping professionals get caught up in the pressures of their roles and fail to find the time or energy to look after their own mental wellbeing.

I am passionate about fostering recovery and post-traumatic growth with people whose expected life trajectory got derailed by major life events such as trauma, health events, family changes, or immigration.

I build on each person's individual strengths to offer tools and strategies that are most likely to achieve the changes required, and do not try to "fix what isn't broken".

I have experience helping people with:

  • Depression

  • Anxiety

  • Trauma (including ACC Sensitive Claims assessment and therapy)

  • Adjustment to major life changes

  • Sleep Problems

  • Stress management

  • Relationships

  • Parenting

  • Emotional regulation difficulties

  • Concussions (non-ACC)

  • Mental wellbeing for helping professionals

  • Supervision for psychologists and other mental health professionals

Who I work with:

I work exclusively with adults.

My expertise lies in supporting individuals in navigating conditions above. I am also attuned to the needs of high functioning helping professionals, team leaders, and entrepreneurs managing business-related stressors

Please note that I do not provide workplace assessments or court reports. I do not offer therapy or assessment services to children, couples, or families at this time.

My approach
Leaves Shadow

About me:

I am registered with the New Zealand Psychologists Board and am a member of the New Zealand Psychological Society.  I am ACC registered to provide assessment and therapy for Sensitive Claims.

I qualified as a psychologist in 2012 (BA, BHSc(Hons), MHSc(Hons), PGDipPP) and have since specialised in adult mental health.

In my private practice I worked on multiple ACC contracts to do with traumatic brain/spinal injury and sexual trauma since 2013. I had a privilege to serve as a senior clinical manager for Lifeline Aotearoa in 2015-2016, before travelling to Canada for 2 years where I was fortunate to participate in multiple psycho-oncology research projects via McGill University and Jewish General Hospital. Should you like a closer look at my career trajectory, here's a link to my LinkedIn profile: www.linkedin.com/in/lola-ianovski-05338884

I am married and a mother of twins, and in my spare time I travel as much as I can or get lost in a book.  Who am I kidding, I’m often lost in a book, regardless.

My approach:

No two people are the same, so I believe one size can not fit all. For this reason, I practice integrative psychology, personalising a blend of evidence-based therapeutic modalities to match your specific difficulties, therapeutic goals, circumstances, and values.  I draw from:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

  • Cognitive Analytic Therapy

  • Trauma-Informed therapy

  • Mindfulness

  • ACT

  • Behaviour Analysis

  • Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)

  • Gestalt

  • Breathwork

  • Biofeedback

  • and Motivational Interviewing

For some of my clients therapy starts as a lifeline in an emotional or relationship crisis, a frontline health service. For others, the experience is a "mental spa" - a chance to spend an hour solely on their own needs and an opportunity to reflect on and fine tune their life strategies without judgement. Regardless of where you find yourself on this spectrum, my approach is to understand your unique situation before proposing tailored solutions.

Your time is precious, so I aim to help you achieve your goals in the most effective and efficient way possible. I am not the therapist for you if you are looking for "years on the couch" (in fact, there is no couch). I aim to work in such a way that you not only achieve your initial therapeutic goals, but develop lifelong skills that benefit you beyond our sessions and after your original problems have resolved.

In terms of my approach, I blend warmth and approachability with evidence-supported strategies. Establishing a strong therapeutic alliance is crucial to success, so I prioritise building collaborative and respectful relationships with each person I work with.
